Today I tried what's known as Voodoo Floss with my PT Dan so after a brief explanation from him I've been off to try and find out all about it for myself and how it is supposed to work. Thank Goodness for google this is where I've got too:
It can be used to break up adhesions in connective tissue in regions of chronic overload such as lateral knee/ thigh in ITB friction syndrome or in the sub-acute rehabilitation phase for the anterior ankle after ankle sprain.
The Voodoo Compression bands can also be a great aid for recovery; flossing the thigh after high repetition squats or the arms after high repetition pull ups/ muscle ups. Flossing after a work out can help with muscle recovery, reduce waste products and muscular tightness. Muscles feeling tight and restricting movement the day after a high intensity work out is common, it can seem to take forever to warm up.

Floss compression bands are a great multi purpose mobility tool, that can be used to help increase mobility in a region of the body such as; help gain internal rotation of the shoulder, extension of the elbow and knee. Voodoo Floss is sometimes applied mid muscle belly, but I have also seen it online applied around a joint. Today It was used on my knee because of poor posture causing a terrible pain during training, I couldn’t get over the instant improvement and range of motion within about 2 minutes of putting it on.
The nice thing was that I wore the Voodoo Floss for about a minute, did some passive knee flexion, took it off. And....... Taaadaaaaa. Instant squat improvement!! Instant pain relief !! Yay xxxxx
How does it work? Mmmmmm well I not really sure.... There's defiantly a strong elastic compression which will alter the fascia's relation to all other aspects of the neuromuscular skeletal system when you move with it on. whilst the Voodoo Floss is used it does obstruct blood flow. In the short term inadequate blood supply to a skeletal muscle is not always a bad thing as the blood flushes back through as soon as the Voodoo Floss is removed. The increased blood flow to an area will help with hydration, healing, and performance.
How we used the Voodoo Floss today
1) I started by wrapping the Voodoo compression band around my knee. I started just below the patella (kneecap) and wrapped firmly working my way up to just above the patella.
* squatting 20-30 times.
2) For the lateral knee pain I found wrapping the voodoo compression band firmly just above the kneecap. the band was wrapped so it was pulling from the outside of the knee across the thigh towards the inside. The band was then pulled tighter around the lateral thigh.
3) For infra patella pain I wrapped the compression band around the leg just below the patella.
*Squatting 20-30 times.
